What is a resume?
The word ‘resume’, according to Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, is a short written account of your education and your previous jobs that you send to an employer when you are looking for a job. The word resume is commonly seen in many job advertisements. For example, please send your resume to our company. Interestingly, the word resume has another spelling which is résumé. This word is French in origin. In addition to the word resume or résumé, some job advertisements may use the word CV instead of resume. Both words mean the same thing although one clear difference is that resume is American English, while CV is British English. In the business world, however, people use these two words interchangeably, especially in Thailand and other non- English speaking countries.
The resume should be written before writing your cover letter because it will be a good outline for writing the cover letter.
A one-page resume is long enough for the students just graduating from university. It is important to write only necessary and suitable information for the job.
