Top Tips for Finding a Job

Not all jobs are advertised, some vacancies are filled before being advertised for saving time and money.
 Here’s the ways of finding a job.

Newspapers

Newspapers have job vacancy adverts under the “classified” section. Their papers usually have certain types of job on different days of the week.

The internet

The large organizations have details of vacancies on the websites. You may sometimes apply online and download the application form. You can search for specify types of job, the salary etc.

Recruitment and employment agencies

They are like brokers who recruit vacancies on behalf of employers. They will find out what skills you’ve got and invite you for interviewing. They may test on your typing speed or your IT skills. Then, they will
contact you when a suitable vacancy opens. Many employment agencies display vacancies on websites.

Personal Contacts
Your family, friends, teachers, neighbors etc. are the effective resources for your job search. They can lead to information about job openings that are not posted.

 It is important to cover the bases when you begin a job search. Here is a list of what
you need before starting:

B. Job advertisement on the internet
Finding for a job on the Internet is as time intensive as reading the paper, calling all your friends; however, it is more convenient and most efficient. Nowadays, many companies want to simplify the process of hiring by posting job openings on web sites and job search sites which is simple, inexpensive and effective. Online job searching is fast replacing the traditional newspaper advertisement.

You can see job advertisement in a classified section of a newspaper. There are many styles of job advertisement which you can learn from examples below.
            These are some example of job advertisement which you can see in a classified section of newspaper such as the Nation or Bangkok Post.



Language Focus
Mostly in an advertisement, a good job advertisement, no matter what size, can be easily divided into five areas:

1. Description of the type of business
This area of the job advertisement tells us what the company is and what the company does. Introduce the company to the candidate and provide some context by describing the type of business.
For example: “Our company, the industry leader in …is now expanding into new
markets…”

2. Position title or Position wanted
This means the official name associated with a set of duties and responsibilities within an organization, assigned to an employee at the time of hiring. A position title can be changed to
reflect current conditions, usually at the time a new person is hired to fill the position.
For example:
ÿ Marketing Manager
ÿ Sale Representative
ÿ Secretary
ÿ Accountant

3. Qualification of candidates
According to Cambridge Dictionary online, “Qualification” means an ability, characteristic or experience that makes you suitable for a particular job or activity.
For example:
Sex and age
ÿ Male/Female, age between 25-35 years
ÿ Male, age 25 up
ÿ Female, age between 22-30 years
Nationality
ÿ Thai
Education
ÿ Bachelor’s degree in any field
ÿ Bachelor’s degree in accountancy
ÿGraduate from Commercial College/University
Experience
ÿ At least 2 years experience as a secretary
ÿ 1-2 year experience in accounting is an advantage
ÿ At least 1 year experience in the relevant position or fresh graduate are welcomed
Special skills
ÿ Good command of spoken and written English
ÿ Ability to use computer is an advantage
ÿ Ability to drive a car

4. Application procedures
The application procedures mean a general procedure in which, through transfer of documents, a resume or recent photo, to a company. The document used for identity verification in the application procedure is just one document or a set of documents depending on a required level of identity verification.
For example:
ÿ Please send your full CV and covering letter to….
ÿ Interested persons apply with resume, detailed qualifications and experience, recent photo and required salary to….
5. Name and address of the company
This area tells us about the name and location of the company where you can contact.

_Identify your skills in great detail in order of importance.
_Find out all you can about the organization and show interest.
        _Sell your abilities, not your old occupation or qualifications.
        _Determine why you will be better at the job than other candidates.

        _Don’t limit yourself to one type of organization for job openings
        _Don’t just apply to your first choice.
        _ Don’t be afraid of rejection.
        _Get as many other people possible to help you look for a job.
        _Be clean, well-dressed and alert.
        _Show a potential employer you have the right attitude and skill.
        _Be persistent.
        _Never give up.
